Tar and chip paving is closely related to asphalt, but with a much rougher finish to it. Tar and chip paving techniques have been used for over 100 years all around the world. There’s a reason it’s still around today. Unlike asphalt, the two materials that make up a tar and chip paving substance are some sort of gravel (the chip) and liquid A/C (the tar) and are mixed on the job site, whereas asphalt is mixed ahead of time.
